OK. Just a brief research via Google for "linux wiki", and found "Linux Guide"
or "http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Linux_Guide". (Seems Wikibooks is a
subsidiary of Wikipedia, or Wikipedia is a subsidiary of Wikibooks, or a
subsidiary of Wikimedia, or just see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation)
ANYWAYS, I'm thinking this would be a viable point for preserving the GPL
related TLDP documentation, if it hasn't already been copied over.
Stuff like NCurses Programing HowTo, would be great. Wikibooks offers
functions, such as Wikipedia page translations for other languages as well,
unlike TLDP's limited language functions.
Seems some documentation has already been published there, but first thing I
see, it lacks a coherent structure of related material. (ie a structured Table
of Contents) The table of contents would need to be modified to included a
hierarchy for TLDP material or more technical material, but can be easily done.
And, based on the activity of the TLDP Wiki, seems like the only option would
be to move the GPL related material. If somebody gets the ball rolling in a
direction, I'd be glad to copy over the Ncurses Howto, while correcting some of
the poor grammar. Currently, documentation seems too split between distros,
and a lot of documentation on the distro wikis, is extremely repetitive with
distro specific modifications.
Personally, think the Wikimedia method might be the best option as it will
provide a solid ground for documenting (it's proven) and very language
friendly. The only thing, need to make sure the GPL material remains GPL under
Wikimedia, for which I think there would be no issues as long as it's stated as
GPL. Think a quick email to FSF for moving the GPL material to Wikimedia (or
insert site name), to ensure it remains GPL, but I wouldn't waste time
contacting them until you have some solid plans. Speculation is a waste of
time.
And, to further note, since it hasn't been done already and I'm really slow
these days, likely somebody has already researched this option but ran into an
issue or two. But, I could be completely wrong as I'm only speculation and
guessing with statistics. ;-)
