There's a problem with determining what is "obsolete technology". Not
only are many old computers still in use (especially in poorer
countries) but what is obsolete on desktop/laptop computers may not be
obsolete for embedded systems. This is true for the serial port.
Even the HOWTO author may not know this. I put in my Serial-HOWTO that the
serial port was obsolete and immediately got a response from embedded
computer people that it was in widespread use on embedded systems. My
"Text-terminal-howto" might be considered obsolete since the
text-terminal is, but the HOWTO also applies to terminal emulation on
PC's which is still being used.
