Yep.
The problems were several fold:
1) I was using sgml2html, not db2html. The db2html works
with the docbook stuff. Thanks!
2) My image files were not properly handled:
a) button.blue.gif was interperted as having
a suffix of .blue.gif, not .gif
b) The html is generated in a subdirectory
hence the images are not found unless you
copy the images from the current dir to the
new dir (or use references like ../image.gif).
c) db2pdf does not handle gif images. I get a blank
space in the output. However, the same image
as a jpg works well.
3) db2ps keeps failing on the big-howto-template.sgml
but I can always generate a pdf, then convert
from pdf to ps using xpdf or acroread.
I'm up and working now....
Thanks for the assistance!

According to Microsoft, GPL and similar licenses are "viral"
licenses. I guess .NET is clearly a "potentially viral
software platform". It would be a nice way to propagate a virus.
