Hello,

My name is Fernando César, I am a student of Computer Engineering at
Técnico Lisbon and I have just registered in LDP wiki (no Spammer!).

About a year ago I joined the team that manages all the computers for
the Computer Engineering Department in my University Campus. I was
assigned to manage the Linux "part". We manage about 100- machines with
dual boot Linux/Windows.

I imagined there would be an immense collection of information
available about how to do this. Some courses material, as it surely
exists for Windows. But I have found almost nothing. There is
information, but you have to know what to look for. For instance,
recently we decided to start using puppet, a configurations manager.
There is a lot information about puppet, however, until some months ago,
we didn't know such software existed. I would like to document my
experience in solving the day-to-day problems I'm facing. I will not be
doing a puppet hot-to, but instead a MWM how-to, where configurations
managers will be a topic (stating they exist, some examples, and how
they can help).

This is not cluster management, or grid management or even workstation
network management. The last one because people usually think about DNS
and DCHP when they see it. I thought I would call it Multiple
Workstations Management (MWM).

Since I work mostly in Debian I am planning to clone this page in the
Debian Wiki, where I guess some specifics about that distro would be
better suited.

I hope you find my project interesting, and encourage it.

Best regards,
