discuss: Thread: Transfer maintainer-ship of an existing HOWTO

Hi all,

I am looking for some pointers on how to transfer the maintenance of a
HOWTO.  I had been maintaining the LVM HOWTO, but have not had time to do
anything with it for some time.  If I can find someone else to work on it,
how do they go about getting access to changing the source document?

Hello :-)

We can't acertain we will find a real maintainer, but we can setup the
HOWTO on the wiki with a "need maintainer" admonition.

The GFDL licence is ok, it allows modification.

Of course if somebody here want to be the maintainer it's ok :-)

If you give me some days to convert the HOWTO to the wiki layout, you
may also review it a last time before leaving :-)

I made some tests, trying to import the LVM-HOWTO in the wiki.

* I'm unable to make this link http://wiki.tldp.org/DocBook%20Gateway
work. May be it's me :-(

* I tryed a lot of converters (http://wiki.tldp.org/Converters) with
various results, mostly bad, but I had two good results, converting
from the html single of the LDP collection.

** http://wiki.tldp.org/LVM-HOWTO is the result from the online
converter. It's basic, but seems good, with some manual edits.
advantage it needs very little overhead, drawback it's online and not
on LDP server so it may desapear without warning;
** http://wiki.tldp.org/LVM-HOWTO-ooo is converted with OpenOffice.
Initially I didn't think it could work :-(, but it did. Loading the
html file in openoffice then applying the macro did a job. However I
got an error (from table conversion) so I don't know if the file is
complete. It's probably possible to convert by parts (the LVM is a
very long HOWTO)

AJ, could you get a look adn say what version you think is better?

I did little manual modifs (adding <<TableOfContents>>), but of course
I can help on this respect.

What do I need to do to get access to adjust the LVM HOWTO on the wiki while
we're waiting for a maintainer?

simply connect to the wiki and edit the doc :-))

the translation to the wiki is almost good, only some manual fixes to
do, for example in:

||<tablestyle="width:100%; background-color:#E0E0E0"> {{{
''' # cvs update '''
 }}} ||

{{{
}}} markup notes a "raw" insert (no wiki format) and don't work in a
table, and the table is of no use there, so simply remove:

||<tablestyle="width:100%; background-color:#E0E0E0">

and the last || (table markup) to give simply:

{{{
''' # cvs update '''
}}}
''' ''' to have italic bold

and

../images/note.gif have to be replaced by

{{attachment:note.jpg}} (I already uploaded the icons) - same for
warnings.jpg
