Folks,
One of the things I've been thinking about writing for FreeBSD has been
a 'cheat sheet' for Linux users migrating to FreeBSD (no flames please,
it happens, and I dare say that users migrate the other way as well).
Anyway, my initial thoughts on this were that it'd look something like
this:
NFS
To configure a host as an NFS server:
RedHat Linux: Do foo, bar, baz.
Debian Linux: Do bar, baz, foo.
FreeBSD: Add 'nfs_server_enable="YES"' to /etc/rc.conf
To configure the list of exported filesystems:
Linux: Edit /etc/mumble, see mumble(5) for details.
FreeBSD: Edit /etc/exports, see exports(5) for details.
and so on and so forth. Very short, simple answers, with pointers to
more information as necessary.
Then it occured to me that this is no longer a cheat sheet for FreeBSD
users -- it's a generally useful cheat sheet, at least as useful to
Linux users as it is to FreeBSD folk (and there's no reason why we
couldn't add something like Solaris in to the mix as well, to say
nothing of NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Darwin).
I don't have the time to do this all by myself, so I'm looking for
volunteers on the Linux side who could help me flesh out the structure a
bit, and also add content for whatever their preferred distribution is.
Any interest?
