There's probably nearly nothing that you need to do to make it valid
DocBook XML from SGML. The concerns might be all lower case tags, and
perhaps some of the syntax changes from DocBook 3 to 4, but if you've
been careful about your SGML, it should also be valid XML. I'd recomend
grabbing the DocBook 4 DTDs (SGML and XML) for your system, and trying
those. If you have some specific things that you know make your SGML
docs invalid XML, let me know and perhaps I know of an easy way around
