Hi Robert:
I can't absolutely guarantee that it will work on Fedora 7, but
assuming you have both xsltproc (package name is often libxslt) and
xalan installed on your system, the rest of the necessary pieces for
good XHTML and reasonable PDF transforms can be pulled directly from
their repositories on the Web.
I _just_ started documenting this basic process for a new
documentation project at
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=documentation:setting_up_docbook_transforms
- give it a shot, and let me/us know if it works for you.
