For quite some time I had been looking for a service that would take
PDFs like those from TLDP, print them, and spiral bind them so that they
would lie flat. There are a lot of great free e-books out there, like
TLDP and the Python docs, and it's a pain to not have bound printouts of
the long ones. Local copy shops wanted to charge ridiculous fees for
this.

Finally I stumbled upon one:

http://www.printfu.org/

It's a great idea, and I hope more businesses get into this arena.

Where I live, there are a lot of typical "student cities" which offer this
service for quite reasonable prices. It is used a lot for printouts of
thesises.

Thanks for the info,

Tille.

They also do perfect binding, and will allow others to order
so once somebody submits a pdf everybody else can just
order bound books. They've been doing it quite a while.
(It may be that they've one of those newfangled print-on-demand
devices.)
