Yeah, you all take a good look at this and stop calling me "Mr. Garrels"
or "Dear Sir" :P
The 'great many opinionless people' (see above URL) are probably all male.
Being adressed as "Mrs" or referred to as "she" does not happen to them,
obviously...

this is exactly the kind of doc I will _hate_ to read (the
"tone" chapter), like if the writer had a stick in the ...

I appreciate greatly humor and colloquial as well as
opinions. For example it's _very_ important to know is an
option is frequently used (ie must be perfectly know) or not
(one can read the man page if necessary)

about the gender, it's and endless problem. In french there
no neutral gender, so anybody.thing is necessarily male or
female. sometimes amusant, most of the time boring

This is what good documentation is all about. Setting up guidelines and
expectations.

I appreciate humor and colloquialism too but they dont belong in
technical documentation

When I see anyone on the net address me "Sir,..." I am pretty sure the
sentence will finish in "...you are a moron", according to a
well-established Slashdot tradition.

If it does not, I consider the message briefly and it usually lands in
my spam bin.

The sourceforge tldpwiki project creation was rejected
without any explication. My account on sourceforge is old,
but I never used it and may have failed in correctly
describing the thing.

I made a support request. It's available here, I hope you
can read it:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1268388&group_id=1&atid=200001

you may even be able to add to it

Such projects are usually rejected 'cos they are *not* software
projects. If you were to make a piece of *wiki software*, it is ok; but
a content-centric projects are by all means not ok. I was explained that
two years ago by SF.NET staff, when I seeked web space for the project
now hosted at http://docs.linux.org.ua/ (Ukrainian language *nix
documentation).

I think they will just do a copy-and-paste job for you. :)

there is a "documentation" in the projects list. may the
"test" aspect is the problem. but they said nothing :-(

I've told what the problem is.

Arguing in case they reject a project is the same as trying to scare a
hedgehog with naked buttocks. Been through it. Tried to emphasize
"software documentation"... And basically they were right. I was wrong.

Oops, I'm asleep at the wheel. Sometime within the last two months
Sourceforge made a policy change for their web servers, Not sure I can
describe it completely accurately, but, iiuc, applications that allow
"online" modification (like a wiki) are no longer allowed.

To clarify, that means Sourceforge won't "host" a wiki--they will, of course,
allow a programming project to develop a wiki (which must then be hosted
elsewhere).

Within the last two months, twiki.org had to move off of Sourceforge for that
reason.

PS: I meant to look at a calendar, but I'm pretty sure there are no US
holidays (non-business days) this week, but Sept. 1 is Labor Day, and will
probably be celebrated on Monday of this coming week (the 29th).
