Anyone else noticed that sending mail to this list automatically generates
spam to the sender from some Korean spam-spewer?

####@####.#### is the culprit.

OK, I no longer accept anything from them; but can it be stopped at the
list end?

They have infiltrated every ldp list :-(

I've asked Serek a few times to remove them(?), but it hasn't been done yet.

All,

Perhaps this is coincidence, but right after I sent out the message regarding
the document that was submitted by Rohit, I received three messages. The first
message was a copy of my message (probably because I am on the 'discuss' list.)
However, the others were simply spam (one claiming to be from Amazon, and the
other from some company called Naver.)

Did anyone else receive that spam as well?

JA

Yeah, but I think those addresses are unsubscribed now, as we don't get
bounces from ####@####.#### or whatever it was.

No, only sender is getting such a reply, because
her/his address is in "reply-to" header.

The reason of such behavior is people subscribing
our lists sometimes remove their accounts without
unsubscribe process. Our listesrver gives about
ten days for bouncing address and then
automaticly unsubscribe them. We cannot
unsubcribe people at once, because sometimes
there are temporary errors.

So - please be more lenient.

Sergiusz,

Thanks for your timely response -- it is greatly appreciated.

If I understand what you are saying correctly, the reason I received the spam
was because Rohit improperly unsubscribe-d from the mailing list? Or could the
bounce be coming from someone else who improperly unsubscribe-d from the list?

FWIW, Yaroslav mentioned that the ####@####.#### account was already
unsubscribe-d from the list. If that is the case, how come I still got the spam?

The problem is that among normal, living people,
there are many network robots. They are
subscribe automaticaly and then there is a
problem for us, because they are sometimes not
bouncing.

If you find a method for eliminating such a
robots, please notify me.

1. You could add a Turing test to the subscribe form. Doesn't have to be good.
I've seen sites that just ask you to add two numbers.

2. It's difficult, but here's what I do: when somebody initially joins,
they are on moderated status. I take them off moderated
status after their first good post.

If you write a software for that, I will add it
in few minutes. Ezmlm mailing list manager is
very modularized and it is easy to add another
test.

Of course, if you want to manually modarate our
lists, we always wait for new volunteers :-)
