Thanks Greg!

I did look at that page, but I must have glossed over that section a bit
too quickly the first time around.

I had to install a few packages and then pick at them and the script to
behave together and in a way that approximates what I see on the LDP
site. Some of the changes I made include:

 - stopping the inaptly named Html2Html.pl from linking section headings
to the TOC when converting Linuxdoc SGML to HTML
 - changing the hardcoded labels for Next/Previous/Contents in
Html2Html.pl to Swedish
 - modifying ldp_mk to handle the standard locations of utilities
installed using aptitude
 - removing escape characters from the plaintext version (thanks to
Steven Atkinson for a very timely message)

I spent considerable time trying to do the latter in a more elegant
fashion. It seems that modifying the utilities not to include the
escape characters in the first place is nontrivial, but it should be
noted that I am not very familiar with Groff and related utilities. The
mappings are in
/usr/share/linuxdoc-tools/dist/linuxdoc/groff/tr-mapping

It looks like modifying Html2Html.pl to generate XHTML instead of legacy
HTML 3.2 wouldn't be too hard. I might look into that some more if I
get the time.
