Consider this discussion a first step on the way. I am willing to take 
the time to develop it further as I learn from working (which I will 
need to do before I can write anything authoritative on the topic). The 
statement was in no way meant to bestow an onus upon someone else to do 
the job.

My bad. Thanks for spotting this.

Aside 1: I suppose the flexibility of a superset is always regarded by 
some as providing inherent superiority. Others would argue that this is 
just part of the definition of a hierarchical model.

Aside 2: At first glance, I am not quite convinced that Linuxdoc even 
fits the bill as any kind of markup language, given that text to which 
semantic markup is to be added is absorbed as attributes. (I am 
thinking specifically of the name attribute of the url tag.)
