My guess has always been the same as David's -- that when the canonical
domain got changed from linuxdoc.org (maybe some Joshua Drake story I'm
better off not knowing?), "ldp.org" was unavailable.  So, domain
"tldp.org" was deemed the closest alternative.

...and I inferred that many folks then started calling the group "TLDP"
merely on account of that domain name.  Personally, I eschew that usage
as aberrant English, and correct it on the fly to "LDP".
