With regards to TLDP's number of hits a day,
adding Wiki capabilities could only increase that.

Because, then, suddenly, people may have a
reason to visit the site other than to lookup
documents.

I think it may be fair to say that having a proper
wiki would eventually attract its own audience..

It would be undesirable and would about defeat
the point of trying a Wiki in the first place.

You must be considering some different advantage
of Wiki technology, but...

I assume HOWTO authors have little difficulty
managing their documents themselves under the
present system, the point of a Wiki, as I see it,
would be to allow people in the community to
provide input more easily, fix errors or
make updates, etc, and easily start drafting
new documents.

Requiring registration isn't that bad, for a Wiki,
by the way -- people register for sites all the time,
it takes all of 2 minutes to do so.

A little longer if registrants are required to have
an e-mail address, perhaps

As for anti-linux crowd vandalism, which probably
wouldn't be -that- much a problem,
compared to the more general problem..
even pro-linux trolls could be a problem,
spewing garbage, regardless of whether or not
it is pro-linux or anti-linux.

Garbage is garbage, and spam is spam.

That's the major reason why you would need/want
a way to mark stable revisions for publication
in the first place.
