Hello,
No news for week 22 but this weeks work has resulted in the
first release of the new HOWTO Generator. Briefly:
- It uses the new set of categories determined by Gerd Berget
- it allows up to 3 categories per document
- it now uses CSS
- the W3C validator has problems with JavaScript generated HTML
and makes lots of non-constructive complaints.
- accessibility is improved though WebXACT (formerly Bobby) test
not is fully approved
o priority 1 checks out with no errors and a few warnings
o some errors and warnings seem misplaced, I believe infact
there are a few minor bugs in the validator
o a lot of effort was spent on this causing minor bloat
- only minor testing has been performed
o Mozille 1.7.7 and Firefox 1.0.1 and 1.0.4 seem to work fine
o IE 6.0 SP2 cannot get data from pulldown categories
o IE also renders radio boxes using CSS strangely
o Opera has not been tested yet
o Safari, Konqueror will have to be tested by others
o full toolchain has not been tested.
- Some more work is needed on tidying all sections
- It is sufficient flexible that it allows for major rework
of chapters with little effort. I believe David Lawyer had
an alternative set of suggestions.
This is therefore just a preview but comments are welcome,
particularly regarding CSS, JavaScript and the errors and warnings
noted in the validators.
As usual you will find the updates on the prototyping page
