I think most webservers would allow you to 302 redirect such URLs to the
right location (the ones with a slash at the end).

I was looking at this again, and I felt that by changing the text on the
pages and some minor modifications, we could really use this to maintain
not just the author information, but volunteer information.  My original
intent was also to store the same.  Storing just the author info is of
little value and what is more valuable is probably varous subject matter
technical reviewers, specialists, language reviewers, markup volunteers
and co-ordinators information.
