It's good that you are highlighting the benefits for the volunteer. If
we structure the "help wanted ad" to emphasize the benefits to the
volunteer it should go a long way to help attract applicants.

From this list my personal reasons for originally becoming a TLDP
author are:
* to share a skill (I think techies with language skills are rare.)
* to repay a debt (I gained a lot from HOWTOs over the years, so I felt
obliged to give something back.)
* to do something different from your job (My day job involves other,
non-Linux server operating systems.)
I'm sure there are other, potential volunteers who have similar yearnings.
