| Sounds like a *really* good idea.

An idea? Well.. many have come before us. Note that I haven't
researched any of the follwing but I'd imagine GNU would have a good
charter, or the FSF. Just some suggestions but I'm not a lawyer (at
all!).
I do know from experience (run a small business myself) that when
you're dealing with other people's cash/property/paid services, you'd
better have some form sort of legal 'body' like an Association with a
proper charter, official members, and a board which is accountable to
the association's members. Not only does that provide a single
professional entity to the outside world, it protects the individual
members from trigger-happy lawyers in case someone unadvertently
violates some copyright or patent. At least, that's how it is here in
The Netherlands.. and my disclaimer still holds: I don't know jack
***** about legal matters!
