I forgot the last little bit, "out of date, could not be modified and were
not good to begin with." (I'm sure we can all think of examples of bad
documents that were yanked? Those are the ones I meant to refer to.)
Sometimes the documents are simply *way* out of date and there is no one
to make the corrections. Licensing is rarely a real stumbling block for us
when it comes to updates--it's mostly knowledgeable humans and their lack
thereof.

We are working on improving the documents that come in with respect to
quality and licensing. Going back and re-writing the existing collection
is not currently a priority as we do not have the volunteers. My own
ACPI HOWTO is waiting for me to add another chunk of information (it will
double in size and then I will hand it off to a new author). How are your
own documents doing? I bet almost everyone on this list is in a similar
boat (except probably Tille who manages to get superhero amounts of work
done!!).

When we do have volunteers to go back and work on existing docs, each document
will need to be considered from the following points (among others, I'm
sure):
	- was the document ever good from a technical, language and learning
	  perspective?
	- would it be easier to start from scratch, or find a new document that
would be a better "base"/starting point
	- can the author be contacted and are they willing to change the
license? And/or make the required updates themselves. Often, but
not always, authors are willing to change the license when asked if
they don't have the time or interest to make the changes themselves.
	- is there someone new who has the time to make the required changes?

At this time I do not believe the manifesto is too flexible with
respect to restrictive licensing (is that a good way to describe it?). If
there is a specific argument that you feel I have missed, please provide
me with the URL from the archive and I will review it.

thanks,
emma
