docbook is the preferred format but its not mandatory.
if you are more comfortable with linuxdoc then LDP
would accept the docs in this format too

please read the ldp faq and authors guide for detailed
information.  if you have any further doubts regarding
the process *after* reading the above mentioned docs
feel free to ask here
