The stumbling block was what to do about the catalogue of cable
providers that was probably out of date before the first version was
published. The suggestion was made to drop it, but since it comprises
most of the document and no consensus was reached it never got off the
ground.
Jess should feel free to plagiarize my Motorola-centric Cable Modem
HOWTO at

...which has a lot of basic info on cable modem configuration not
specific to that brand.
