Interesting points - what about registering in sweden then?

Please don't give up. It's an interesting idea. I don't think it's about ego -
it's just a quick, free and simple way to reference our most important documents
and track ready-to-print pdfs. As someone said, it could also ease academic use
("go to en.tldp.org and print document called foo HOWTO isbn# xxxxxx") and could
help us reach new domains, such as university libraries.
In my univ, many student go there to find unix books - they don't even know
about TLDP or free documentation.
If it can help getting our documents there and reaching more readers, it *will*
help.
We can find volunteers to proof read documents, to convert from linuxdoc to
docbook, to update the website etc - why can't we have ISBN volunteers ?
If you are willing to take care of the process, then go ahead! Those who want
ISBN numbers will get them. I will - and I think I won't be alone there.
Someone suggested it may lead to abuse - I suggest you only take care of the
process for one version of any document per year and only when the documents
contains enough pages (say 1000?)
That would be a great incentive for anyone to update his/her document every
year!
Best regards,
Guylhem
