The original author (Brian Ward) still lists the Kernel HOWTO on his web
pages, see:

It doesn't say anywhere that someone else has been working on his doc. He
actually says he's planning to update it himself...
Sounds like TLDP should check with him whether he is aware that the document
was rewritten by another author and that it is being corrected and improved
now. He may want to be part of it or at least give his OK for someone to take
over based on his work.
