In Belgium it's only a couple of euro/dollar cents.
In Sweden, it is free.
OK it is for printed matter, these ISBN numbers. I have here before me
"Linux Undercover", subtitled "Linux Secrets as reveiled by the Linux
Documentation Project" (that's us), a 2000+ page book which is really only
a printout of our docs. This has an ISBN number.
So printing out HOWTO's and guides and publishing them is not unheard of -
as argued by a.o. ESR, we should try to make money with our work. This is
one way. I was going to suggest that my company pays for the cost of
registering the ISBN numbers (both cost of time and cost of money), but
seeing the lack of interest, the fear for administrative overhead, and
the bluntness with which some people express this, I'll just go and
register my own docs and not botter TLDP with it.
I'll also burry the idea for an ISSN number for our weekly news.
Tille.
