I did - I now refuse to do business related to non free software.

That's my personal choice. It can make your life harder but it's much more
rewarding.

As long as you use a free software license that's perfectly fine.

I don't think either that a document should be excluded if the software costs
money.
But if the software is non free software, I would personally like to see the
document pulled.

developping free documentation : not free as in gratis but free as in libre
for the GNU/Linux OS : that excludes non free software.

It's implicit. Anyway documentation for non free software is currently admitted.
It should be moved to a separate hierarchy IMHO but that should be a group
decision - it's not my decision or your decision.
