I think that's a moot point, personally. I prefer to deliver them
publicly *but* in conjunction with a reply containing real content. The
reason for this is that a public reply means that other people will be
less likely to send the same reply privately, and I feel that receiving
a hundred private replies would be far more embarrassing than a single
public reply.
Perhaps my point of view is unusual, I don't know; but I don't think
that a public reply on netiquette is ipso facto impolite.
