I stopped using CVS tags when I started getting questions about  
versions of my HOWTO that I'd never released publicly. Turns out a  
number of distributions put the HOWTO's under their own source control  
which over-wrote my version number. Probably less of a problem with the  
$Log$ tag but not without issues I'd imagine.

Personally I don't care about the revision history in documents I read,  
as long as it's fairly recent. I, therefore, have a version number and  
date attached to mine.
