Ironically, I spent half-an-hour earlier this week *deleting* the only
HOWTO that's had its own dedicated wiki for the last three years.
Why?
No-one used it.
(Apart from me, the co-author, and four other contributors over the
whole three-year period.)
Even though the standard 'text' version mentioned the existence of the
wiki, and gave a hyperlink to its location.
Guess the subject was just too boring.
I shall therefore follow this trial with the greatest of interest.
But from personal experience, the moral appears to be:
don't over-estimate the interest of the general public in raising the
energy to lift a finger to press the 'edit this page' link.
I have often toyed with the idea of making such wikis *restricted*
access sites -- as a means of 'adding' value to the act of updating
them.
Just my thoughts.
