And you also bring up another good point; during the review process, we
always ask the author to go over our "proposed" revisions, and be in
agreement on the changes.  I've always stated reasons for any proposed
changes, but everything is subject to discussion.  If an author has a
specific motive for doing something, and can show me the logic behind
it, I don't mind leaving it their way.

This habit has made for wonderful working relationships.
