There is a draft for a position statement from the project:
http://people.debian.org/~srivasta/Position_Statement.xhtml

Currently most Debian package maintainer still include GFDL licensed
documentation (with no invariant sections and no back/front cover
texts, otherwise the license is undoubtly non-free in the eyes of
Debian) which is also true for the doc-linux package which includes
the HOWTOs from TLDP (and which I currently co-maintain with Colin
and Doug Jensen).

I don't know if there is any chance that the negotiations between Debian
and the FSF lead to any results. But IMO the chances are high that the GFDL
in its current form will be considered non-free and GFDL licensed
material will not be allowed in Debian.

For further reference see the link above and the list archives of the
debian-legal mailinglist from the last two years ;)
