I'm just guessing, but I think that the rating system was to be an
integral part of the database and can't be easily extracted. We also
sorely need other parts of this system such as a wish list, etc. So
what's happened to David Merrill who was developing Lampadas? Did he
get sick again?
The PHP-HOWTO is by Al Dev and he's written a number of other HOWTOs
which are likely just about as bad as PHP and probably should be
removed. But I've haven't read most of them so if anyone has time,
could they briefly review his other "works" (or "pranks").
I've seen rating systems misused. The author and cronies assign a poor
work the highest ratings. So one needs a sophisticated rating system that
tries to detect this. This may involve assigning a credibility level to
the rater. There is also the case of a well written document that has a
lot of errors and omissions. But since it reads well and is easily
understood, it gets high ratings from newbies and other naive people.
