and why do i get different results using DocBook 4.2 than any other
documents from TLDP (especially numbered chapters) ??

Excellent. Do you have it online?
Does it deal with recompilation of the sources and adaptation of the lo res
applications (to transform fixed width widgets into relative width widgets)
