I ship text versions of LDP documents in the Debian doc-linux-text
package, which is considerably smaller and therefore installed as
standard versus doc-linux-html which is optional. (9Mb versus 69Mb
unpacked size is not to be sneezed at.)
I also regularly read documents in plain text format. They're much
easier to search that way. Even people who like viewing in HTML probably
disagree about whether they want single-page HTML (easy to search) or
multiple-page HTML (doesn't take eons to render large documents).
