GNU was an OS without a working kernel. That's where Linux came in...it
became the kernel using the various GNU tools which made up the rest of the
operating system (back in the day), in modern times the operating system
(which I refer to as GNU/Linux) consists of software made by various groups
and hundreds of individuals. Refering to Linux refers to just the kernel and
I'm not describing kernel tools alone.

I disagree with this but I don't want a flame war so I'm not going to
argue....

Agreed, I think I may leave the title as it is, I've already renamed the
document 3 times (or more).
