And not only newbies: after nearly ten years of using UNIX, I am still not 
confortable with these things :)  Of course, I am not a developer, but I 
need to compile things every now and then.  Had there been a short intro, 
that would have spared me years of frustration.  Until now, I've never 
read any serious book about these tools, so maybe an intro will help me 
get over the fear ;-)
