Another quick note!

 : I'll try to revise the text as I go to take out the text
 : references to a "side bar" -- I'm pretty sure I can still link
 : internally within the document, but I'm too tired to remember
 : what the element is right now.

There are two ways to create a link ID:

  type #1, use the "id" attribute on a tag:

    <chapter id="orange-cat"> &ch-content; </chapter>
    <section id="green-cat">  &sect-content; </section>
    <example id="ex-purple-cat"> &example-content; </example>

  type #2, use the anchor tag (with an "id" attribute):

    <anchor id="blue-cat"/>

There are two ways to use these link IDs:

  type #1, use arbitrary text as the clickable text:

    <link linkend="orange-cat">Click to read a Chapter</link>
    <link linkend="green-cat">Click to reach a Section</link>
    <link linkend="blue-cat">Click to hit an Anchor</link>

  type #2, use an xref tag, which grabs the text from the
      destination tag:

    <xref linkend="ex-purple-cat"/>

Enjoy!
