Emma,

If you have Java on your machine you might want to look at XXE from
XMLMind. (http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/)  It's a pretty slick GUI
Docbook XML editor that is free (as in beer) for personal use.  I have
found it fairly easy to learn and work with.
