Don't worry about that. All you need is the DocBook XSL stylesheets 
(easily gettable), and an XSLT processor (I use xsltproc, it's very 
advanced and is written in C, so it's very fast).

I understand. Usually documents are more easily maintainable if they 
are written in clearer, easier-to-understand syntax.
