I would suggest that you include *both* lines, something along the lines
of:
If you are going to be working with SGML, start your document with:
<...
If you are going to be working with XML, start your document with:
<...
I don't really understand the great worries about XML vs. SGML - if you
follow all the LAG suggestions, converting your file from SGML to XML
really just involves changing the header lines. To me it's a non-issue.
What *is* an issue to me is finding tools that work as well with DocBook
XML as they do with DocBook SGML.
Patrick, I understand your enthusiasm for XML, and I look forward to
the day when it will work as well as I want it to... but right now
I've been far happier with the output from the SGML tools. Someday,
hopefully sooner rather than later, the XML tools may catch up and
then pass the SGML.
I would also note that Norm's DSSSL stylesheets are a bit more mature
than his XSLT stylesheets... but that, too, will change over time.
Regards,
Dan
