Hi Tabatha and Alexander,

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I should rename the document, to reflect the
scope of the document.

It is by no means a complete document. But I have tried to include the most
frequently asked question, that I have been asked by the users whom I
support. I plan to include more questions as I encounter them.

One thing I have noticed is that, nobody likes is to read the whole guides.
They just want quick and dirty solutions to the problems, "thus the FAQs".

I plan to have a searchable database of FAQs online (using a XML DB and
Apache Cocoon offcourse). While I am working on that, I wanted to put
together the FAQs in document format, so that I can share with people, get
feedback and improve upon it. In the past, whenever I have put any
documents on TLDP, I have gotten huge number of constructive feedback that
has help me to improve the documentation immensely, increase my knowledge
about the subject. And I think that is one of the aims of the GNU Free
Documentation License, i.e. to learn and improve.

I was hoping to do this with the FAQs as well, and at the sametime help the
linux community answer some of there most frequent asked questions.

However it is up to the discretion of TLDP community to include or exclude
the document in the repository.

In Peace,
Saqib Ali

Hi Saqib,

I took a look. Do you think this is complete enough? I am trying to
determine the scope of the FAQ by the questions, and they seem to be
covering important basic needs, but it seems like it's missing
something.

For example, when you say "Frequently Asked Questions About Linux," does
that mean these steps are going to work on most/all distributions?
Also, the title implies that these are THE most frequently asked Linux
questions. The implications of saying that could be cause for debate.
Perhaps you could narrow the scope down to something more specific if
that would help make the document more unique.

Your FAQ covers command-line tools. LDP has a very comprehensive
document online, "An Introduction to Linux - A Hands-on Guide," written
by Machtelt Garrels that specifically highlights the command-line
experience, and if some of these aren't covered in hers, there may also
be other documents that cover these specific items. Can anyone confirm
whether this is the case here, just to be sure there isn't any
duplication of information.

I'd look forward to reading feedback from others on this - the more
opinions, the better we can utilize the information, whether in a new
document or incorporated into an existing one.

Thanks much!
Tabatha
