LDP has no rules on this but I guess it's covered under common law.  One
obviously can't change what someone else wrote unless it's made clear to
the reader that this has been done.  Howver, I sometimes take the
liberty to correct someone else's spelling as found by my spell-checker.
Since search engines archive mailing lists and newsgroups, I guess it
must be legal to do so.
