Even if we had these stats it would be difficult to evaluate them. For
example, a document for a rare piece of hardware or for certain
development work may be little used, but be of great importance to the
few who use it. For development, millions may use the resulting software
created by a person who only needed to use one copy of a doc to help her
develop it. So the number of times a doc is viewed/downloaded may have
little correlation to its usefulness.

Still, it might be interesting for the authors to look at such stats
and see how many are looking at their writings. Of course, the stats for
the main site would not include all the viewing at the mirror sites, the
commercial sites, nor the stuff on CDs. But one could still get an idea
of the popularity of their doc in relation to others. So I think that
while it would be interesting, there are tasks of higher priority to do
first. But if someone wants to volunteer it should be OK.
