Hello All,

I've been referred to this list from the folks at ####@####.####
with a question I have regarding the submission of the Cyrillic HOWTO.

There's this Cyrillic HOWTO that has become orphaned a few years ago. A
man in Russia picked it up, translated it to Russian, and has been
maintaining it.

So what we have is a Cyrillic (Russian) HOWTO, in Russian. One of the
serious issues is that the document is not very useful to those who are
not fluent Russian speakers. In fact, the users of this document are
expected to be those who ARE Russian native speakers, but have to
Russify their English-based Linux distributions. As such, they may not
be fluent in English to understand the English howto.

Also, many details are really geared towards fluency in Russian: if you
do not care to write in Russian, you have no need to care how to set up
your fonts (you can view HTML already in Mozilla...), how to propertly
typeset your book/thesis/etc in Russian, or anything else related to
inputing it. In addition, many of the contributors are likely to be
Russian native speakers, so it makes sense to have the ORIGINAL of this
document in Russian, and have English be the translated (derived)
document, and not the other way around.

As an aside: yes, if you are learning Russian, you might also want to
type in Russian, but the argument is that the ORIGINAL needs to be in
Russian because that is the largest audience that is going to need it,
work with it, and update it.

To help with the digesting of the HOWTO, there is a brief introduction
in Russian that has been translated into English. We are planning to
request help with translating other chunks of it, but it really IS more
geared towards Russian speakers.

Comments? Would a HOWTO in Russian be acceptable, with English as a
translation, and not the other way around?
