Greg,
I understand your concern and I agree that LFS is a very good and well established guide on building a Linux system from source code. I'm not really trying to make a bigger, better LFS. The final destination is similar to LFS, but I believe the project takes a longer, more winding road to get there. With my project I am trying to focus on the development process and include references to various standards documentation to explain why things are done the way they are. In the project, things are built using the basic principles of Rapid Application Development (RAD) so it starts very small and spirals into a bigger and more capable system with each iteration. I think this approach has several advantages:
* It's easy for beginners to get started since the first iteration is very trivial.
* It breaks the building process into manageable chunks to avoid information overload.
* Builders can stop at any stage of building and still have a usable system.
* People can learn about software development techniques without realizing they are learning.
Take a look and let me know what you think. It's at http://my.core.com/~dhorton/linux/diy/
