I experienced undiagnosed catastrophic server failure on my AlphaServer
800 5/400. I ordered new RAM, but that did not resolve my ECC Error
problems. I suspect I may need a new CPU, but I hesitate to fork out the
dough when I really am not sure what is wrong.
To tell you the truth, I didn't really think anyone but me was using it
anymore. I made an announcement of the outage when it occurred, and
nobody spoke up about it being urgent. That's why I have not panicked
about it being down.
I have backups of all the data at the point it went down, but do not have
a server to run it on. I could run it on my workstation if the need is
urgent. It might take me a few days though, to get through all the
updates posted on the announce list. With the LDPDB, so the data is up to
date, (I have to manually keep the database in sync. That's one of the
problems Lampadas is intended to solve. If a kind soul would volunteer to
help get this done, it would be a big help to me.)
Were you using it to generate the Debian LDP packages? Are you trying to
do your monthly update? If so, I can crib together whatever data you
need. I can run the command line scripts and generate omf or xml or
whatever you want.
Being in a pickle, as it were, I am trying to get Lampadas ready, so we
can just load the data into a brand spanking new Lampadas database and go
with it. That should come about within a few days to a week. While
Lampadas is not 100% ready, it has all the functionality of the LDPDB and
much, much more. There is very little risk and a big potential upside
going onto Lampadas as soon as possible. It's good for the LDP because it
will replace the missing LDPDB, and it's good for Lampadas because it
will get real-world use and testing.
