This 'protection' is trivial to circumvent.
I did so for one of my pet projects

http://fortune-mod-fvl.sourceforge.net/

The trick is to spoof the user agent:

wget --user-agent="Links (0.96; Unix)" ...

I did not implement access to the search engine, though.
The very idea of that project is to manually find interesting
quotes. But if you have a practical idea (not just 'make a
backup of google') I'll be glad to help.
