I was going to point out that we just had a discussion that
covered all this, but then I saw that you started that
discussion. Anyway...
http://www.docbook.org/wiki/moin.cgi/DebianGnuLinuxPackages
Specifically, I would suggest the following:
$ apt-get install docbook opensp jade jadetex ldp-docbook-dsssl
Other necessary packages will be handled by the dependencies.
Review the Wiki page; it's possible I missed something.
Regarding the command line, I only use the DocBook/XML DTD, not
SGML, and that makes quite a difference.
For some reason, I've been unable to get openjade to work, but a
very simple SGML 4.1 document is handled properly on my system
with the original jade like thus:
$ jade -t sgml -ihtml -d \
/usr/share/sgml/docbook/stylesheet/dsssl/ldp/ldp.dsl#html \
mydoc.sgm > mydoc.html
(Note for non-Debian users: it is quite unlikely that your LDP
stylesheet should happen to be in the above location. Debian's
is only there because I packaged it and put it there, not because
I have any clue where the rest of the world puts theirs.)
