That's why I think we should have our own dcbook tools package,
distribution independant, and able to coexist safely with any
distribution docbook tools package.

/opt/docbook would be just fine - we could recommand a version we know
exactly how it works, fix any bug, write documentation without path or
version problem ("just tar zxvf docbook.tgz in /opt, then read the
Docbook beginners guide") etc.

Leaving this problem to the distributions may make it look easier to the
prospective authors ("just install docbook package from your distro ...)
but the result is quite bad.  (... and pray for the result of the
command lines we recommand you to type")
