Another incentive is "thank you" email from readers.  One wonders when
one gets such an email, how many more thought the same but didn't bother
to do this?

Hasn't this thread strayed way off topic ??  But I'm glad as I think
that one can put suggestions into HOWTOs which in a sense form
policies.  For example, the Author Guide and the LDP-Reviewer-HOWTO even
though I don't agree with some of what's in them.  Anything
controversial in them should have been discussed on this list.
